Dr. James Loveluck joined the Research Institute (at that time OSF RI) in 1990 as Manager of European Research Relations and was later promoted to Director of the Research Institute. His responsibilities included setting up and managing development projects, including collaborative projects, and liaison with the European research community. He was responsible for the distribution of the Research Institute's OSF/1 MK microkernel-based operating system. He was later involved in setting up the Secure Web and Network Printing activities at the Grenoble RI, and previously with the adaptation of the MK technology to the PA-RISC platform, adaptation of MkLinux to PA-RISC, and the portability projects based on the ANDF technology. He has managed a number of projects funded by the EC's Esprit programme, including GLUE, DEPLOY, and WIRE. Recently James took over operational responsibility for Silicomp Research Institute, as General Manager of the lab.
Before joining The Open Group, Dr. Loveluck worked for Digital Equipment, Networks and Telecommunications, in Annecy, France, where he was Product Manager, and previously for Group Bull, in the Distributed Systems Architecture and Standards Division, in Paris, France, where he was Project Leader for the Esprit "ROSE" project, the objective of which was to implement OSI protocols under UNIX. He also represented Bull on the X/Open working group devoted to networking.
Dr. Loveluck holds a Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics from the University of Manchester Physics Department, UK, and has published over twenty papers in journals, conference proceedings and books. He has held teaching and research positions at Westfield College, University of London, UK, Northeastern University Physics Department, Boston, St. Catherine's College, Oxford, and research jobs at the Rutherford Laboratory, UK, and the Institut Laue Langevin, France.
